Sewphisticated Knits

When I was a little girl, I learned to knit, sew, crochet, dance and many other crafty things.  Then life got in the way. I went away to school. Moved on from some of those artsy parts of me.

​​A few years ago while visiting family in Norway, my aunt brought out the knitting needles and some yarn and off I went. 

Fast forward a few years and I have knit many mittens, garments, blankets and other accessories.

Then 2020 arrived. A friend posted on Facebook that she had a friend who needed help sewing masks for long term care residents. I said to her that although I hadn't sewn in years (decades), I would be happy to help but didn't have a sewing machine. our group made many masks and as the pressure on long term care eased, I realized we all had a long way to go.

A lot research on masks followed. I had been following a standard pattern for the long term care homes but I wanted something different.

The 3-D mask offers a flat front portion which means no mouthful of fabric when you are wearing it. The 100% woven cotton with its polypropylene liner offers a triple layer aiming to assist on our efforts to protect others when wearing masks.  While 2 m distance and frequent hand washing are all still the best options according to public health, an effective face covering will assist as well.
